Sclerotia spherical, oblong, oval or irregular clumps. Surface dark brown, wrinkled hull. Fruiting bodies of the equatorial surface of the sclerotia, thickness 3 ~ 8mm, white, mature dried into a light brown. Polygonal toirregular-shaped nozzle diameter of 0.5 ~ 2mm, hole wall is thin, the edge gradient into the dentate. Spores longcivil and military, nearly cylindrical, smooth wall.

Born in sandy soil, sunny slopes of Pinus rhizosphere; cultivated. Primary production in Yunnan, Anhui, Hubei, Henan.

1 Diuresiseffects: Poria alcohol extracts had an obvious action of dieresis effects [1]. Poriainfusion had diuretic effects, but poria ash is no such role [1]. Normal spermhave a diuretic effect, but for rabbits, not sure its diuretic effect [2].Removal of the adrenal gland in rats, injection of deoxy corticosterone mergerof 30% Poria decoction than single deoxy corticosterone by increased urineoutput, urinary sodium and urinary potassium excretion also increased, so thatdoes not have anti-deoxy corticosterone role and impact of renal tubularreabsorption of Na⁺ [3].

2 Digestfunction: (1) the prevention of gastric ulcer: Poria water extracts oral torats, can prevent mild gastric ulcer [4], the prevention of water invasion formice induced stress ulcer effect [5]. (2) the prevention and treatment of liverinjury [6]

3 Anti-tumoreffects: The polysaccharides from Poria transfer into Pachymaran,which had higher inhibitory rate for the mouse sarcoma S180, reaching96.88%. Poria cocos polysaccharide complex had inhibition rate of 57.8% for mousesarcoma S180 tumor. Carboxymethylpachymaran had a therapeutic effect [8]nasopharyngeal carcinoma, gastric cancer and other malignant tumors and chronichepatitis. And it can prevent lung metastasis of cervical cancer in mice [9].

4 Improvingimmunity: Poria cocos polysaccharides enhanced the immune function of normaland ringworm mice, and also enhanced macrophage phagocytosis, increasedsignificantly spleen antibody-secreting cells, increase the number oftumor-bearing mice ANAE positive lymphocytes, antagonism thymic atrophy andsplenomegaly [11]. Subcutaneous injection of carboxymethyl Poria cocospolysaccharide can significantly increase the peritoneal macrophage phagocyticfunction of normal mouse, and can antagonize the cortisone acetate due to thereduction of macrophage function. The normal mice spleen weight wassignificantly increased [12]. Pachymaran can also improve the immune functionfor the older [13]. Polysaccharides can made leukocyte rebound acceleration[10].

5 The others: Theporia water, ethanol and ether extract enhanced contraction of frog hear andspeed up the role of heart rate [14]. Poria decoction had bacteriostatic action[15]. The ethanol extract can kill leptospirosis [16]. Poria water extract oralto mice, can inhibit formation of contact dermatitis [l7]. Poria water extractcan make red blood cell 2,3-DPG level increased for healthy people, and caneffectively delay the 2.3-DPG depletion in the incubation process [18]. Poriawater or alcohol extract orally to rabbits, the blood sugar first raise andthen drop [19].
