1 Liver-protecting: Theliver fibrosis induced was ameliorated, meanwhile, HA, PCI, PC III and TGF β1were decreased [1]. On the other hand, the anti fibrotic effect ofHovenia dulcis Thunb was alsodemonstrated by the histological examination, indicating that hovenia dulcis thunb may beuseful for the treatment of hepatic fibrosis [2-4].

2 Central inhibitoryeffects: Hovenia dulcis Thunb saponins hasthe central inhibitory effect [5].

3Hypotension：Hovenia dulcis thunb saponins had the Hypotension activity short time [5].

4 Anti-lipidperoxidation: The homogenate of hovenia dulcis thumb could increase the SOD content of liver and cerebralcells [6].

5 Anti-alcoholism: Fruits of hoveniadulcis could shorten sleep time distinctly and reduce alcohol concentration inblood of acute alcohol toxicity mice [7-9].

6 Gastric stress ulcereffect: Hovenosidescould obviously inhibit gastricstress ulcer [5].

7 Anti-tumor activity: IC50 of HDT onhuman hepatoma BEL-7402 cell, the inhibitory rates of HDT on hepatoma H22 inmice is high. HDT possessed in vitro and vivoantitumor activities [10].

8 The others: HDT showed significant anorectic effect in rats. Moreover,diuresis effect: many hoveniadulcis thunb saponins could decrease the urinary outputs and concentrations ofNa⁺ and K⁺in urine [5,11].

Alcoholic cirrhosis: the treatment group (40 cases)were treated with zhijuzi(Raosin Tree Seed) mixture ( zhijuzi(Raosin Tree Seed), sanqi(Panax notoginseng), Danggui(angelica sinensis), chuanxiong(Rhizoma Chuanxiong), chishao( red Herba Peony) , taoren(Peach Seed)etc). The control group (10 cases) was treated with Oral administration of Western medicine Glucurolactone tablets, vitamin B6, vitamin C, 12 weeks continully. after Continuous 3 months, the total effective rate of the treatment group was 82%, the total effective rate of the control group was 50% ,two groups had significant difference ( P < 0.01 ), clinical symptoms of two groups were improved , gastrointestinal symptoms of the treatment group improved more significantly, there were significant differences ( P < 0.01 ). In addition, lipids, cholesterol of the treatment group decreased; there was significant difference (P < 0.05) ^[1].
