[Ecology]     It prefers warm and moist climate,the optimal soil for being planted,is lime soil with humus.It grows in hillsidevalley bushesditch side and grass beside road at the altitude between 80 to 150 metres.

[Pharmacological activities]

1. Anti-inflammatory and Analgesia: Chinese clematis root and rhizome and its total saponins can inhibit mice writhing response and prolong hot plate time, relieve swelling of ear and foot, inhibit adjuvant arthritis on rat or mice model[1-5]. In addition, its processed product show similar action and stir-frying with wine was the best product[3].

2. Anticancer: Total saponins show cytotoxic activity on EAC, S180, HepA cell line in vitro[6]. Its extract show cytotoxic activity on SMMC7721 cell line in vitro[7].

3. Antibiosis: Water extract show depressant effect on staphylococcus aureus and bacillus shigae. Protoanemonin was the activity compound and it can inhibit fungal, gram-positive and negative bacterium[8]. Water and ethanol extract show similar inhibit effect on mice plasmodium infections[7].

4. Choleretic: Water and ethanol extract can promote rat bilification and ectasia choledochus musculus sphincter[5,9].

5. Spasmolysis: Its extract can promote intestines smooth muscle movement and relax ileum smooth muscle[7].

6. Other Effects: Water extract has antidiuresis and hypoglycemic activity[7]. Its root alcohol extract can inhibit ameba bacillary dysentery[10]. Total saponins show immunosuppressive action on mice model[11].
