1 Cardiac functionWhen squeezed the juice filtrate dropping saxifrage or 1:1 ethanol extract 0.01ml to the isolated frog heart, it shows certain cardiac function. The calcium-free extract still has excitatory effects on heart, while the effect is weaker than calcium-contained extract. The cardiac function of this product is slower compared with calcium oxide and has longer duration [1].

2 Antibacterial activity: The ethanol extract of Saxifrage can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureusBacillus thuringiensisEscherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis [2].

3 Diuretic activity: Anesthetized dogs and conscious rabbits intraperitoneal injection of 1ml/kg saxifrage ethanol extract, can exhibit obvious diuretic effect. After the destruction of the glycosides contained in the extract, there is still some diuretic effect [1].

4 Induction of apoptosis: Saxifrage ethanol extract can inhibit the proliferation of rat fibroblasts [3] and human prostate cancer cell [4] in vitro, and induce apoptosis.

[Clinical trial]

Prostatic hyperplasia: 32 cases were treated with Preparation of, 13 cases of them were treated with “Herba Saxifragae Injection” via perineum prostate, 2ml each side, one time every 5-7 days, 10 times for a period of treatment; 8 patients of them were treated with “Herba Saxifragae Suppository” via rectally, one time a day, 3 months for a period of treatment; 11 cases of them were treated with “Herba Saxifragae Injection” via perineum prostate and “Herba Saxifragae Suppository” via rectally. Results: Four observation indexes before and after treatment were significant difference (P<0.01 or P<0.05)[1].
