[Pharmacological activities]

1. Antimicrobial: Ranunculus ternatus Thunb decoction, powder and alcohol extracts of the crude drug in vitro have different degrees of inhibition on virulent M.tuberculosis (H37RV), and antibacterial effects slightly stronger than isoniazid [1]. The filtration of Ranunculus ternatus Thunb, Artemisia annua flooding were made of Lowenstein traditional Chinese medicine culture medium and control medium by 1:200 concentration, which were inoculated with M. tuberculosis suspension after sterilization .Results show that control medium TB grow well, while traditional Chinese medicine culture medium TB-free growth. Ranunculus ternatus Thunb water extract inhibit Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus albus, the four cocci, dysentery bacilli, and inhibit drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis resistant to yoelii mouse malaria, reduce the protozoan infection rate [2] . Application of in vitro TB susceptibility tests and gas chromatography - mass spectrometry technology research the pharmacological effects of Ranunculus ternatus Thunb organic acid parts and chemical composition that discovred organic acid site should be one of the effective parts of the herbs anti-TB [3].

2. Anti-tumor: The radix ranunculus ternate saponins(RRTS) and polysaccharide have varying degrees of impact on cell line growth and colony formation of sarcoma S-180, Ehrlich ascites tumor EAC and human breast cancer cell line MCF-7 tumor; saponin suppression to tumor effect better than the polysaccharide, and administration dose of saponin have a significant positive correlation with the inhibition rate and colony formation,while the polysaccharide is only one optimal dose [4]..The catlike grass chloroform, vinegar and alcohol extracts are certain in vivo anti-transplanted hepatocellular carcinoma [5].

3. Immune regulation:Ranunculus ternatus Thunb water extract have a certain immune-modulation [5]. polysaccharide RTG-III of Ranunculus ternatus Thunb water extract can enhance the immune cells to the inhibition of tumor cells of HL-60 [6].

[Clinical trial]

1. Tuberculosis: for tuberculosis:  Maozhuacao capsule: 4 capsules for adult,  3times per day , 28 cases were treated , 21 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis werecured, 3 cases were effective that was cured with western medicine treatmentafter two courses and were not relapse. For body surface scrofula: takingMaozhuacao capsule fourpatients were recovered gradually [1].

2. Neck lymphatic tuberculosis:on the basis of  the routine anti-tuberculosisdrug treatment that was add 4 Maozhuacao capsule , 3 times per day, taking aftermeals, 3 months as one course of treatment, continuous taking for 2 ~ 4 courses.Clinical effective rate was 96%[2].

3. Lymph node tuberculosis: (1) Maozhuacao capsule: 4 capsules for adult, 3 times per day ,. For 178 cases, clinical cure rate reached 90%, and efficient rate was100%[3]. (2) on the basis of 3DL2/3DL1 anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy  that was took 4 Maozhuacao capsules , 3 times perday, 60 cases of oral treatment, 56 cases were cured, 1 case was markedlyimproved, 2 cases were effective , 1 case inalid, the total effective rate98.3%. Powerfully time shortest time was for 2 weeks, the longest for 2 months, and 1 cases with lymph node abscess; that had no recurrence[4] .

4. Epididymis tuberculosis: After diagnosis that was treated by 22HRZE/4HR of  chemotherapy , Maozhuacaocapsule for oral , three times per day ,3 ~ 4 pill per time. In 21 cases oftreatment, more than half of the cases were mass change soft narrow in twomonths, symptoms was disappear. Six months at the end of chemotherapy, symptomsdisappear rate was 100%. Lumps disappear completely that was 18 cases, 3 cases wereobviously narrowed, 2 cases after chemotherapy in continue to separate oralMaozhuacao capsule, respectively on 9 months, 11 months when the mass was disappear,1 cases was residual nodules. Lumps disappear rate was 95.2%. The totaleffective rate was 100%. Maozhuacao capsule take time was average for 135 days, all cases follow-up of for 1 year, without recurrence, take medicine period didnot see any side effects [5]

5. Vaccinal BCG vaccine lymphnode reaction: on the basis of the routine anti-tuberculosis drug treatment, thatwas add Maozhuacao capsule, 1 pill per time, 2 time per day, taking aftermeals, continuous taking for six days, and that taking after 3 days. Treatmentfor 3 months. For 1 month and 2 months of clinical cure rate was 41.9% and74.4%, respectively, after the treatment, the treatment group for the clinical treatmentof effective rate was 97.7%[6].

6. Acuteepididymitis: internal use Maozhuacaoyangtao decoction, Maozhuacao(Hupeh Anemone Herb) 1 agent per day, For 76 cases, 67 cases were cured (88.2%); 9 caseswere improved (11.8%)[7]
