[Pharmacological activities]

1 Protecting liver: LiverDamage after carbontetrachloride poisoning was reduced by treating with Sedumsarmentosum Bunge [1].

2 Bacteriostasis: Sedum sarmentosum Bunge possesseshepatoprotective effect, estrogenic effect, immune suppression and angio-tensinconverting enzyme (ACE) inhibition, as well as bacteriostasis [2].

3 Anti-inflammatory effect: Sedum sarmentosum Bunge can relieve the symptoms of experimental colitisthrough TGF-β1,IL-2 and IL-10 [3].

4 Antihypertensive effects: ACE-inhibiting properties andmay thus be used as antihypertensive components [2].

5 Immunityinhibition:The aqueous extracts from Sedum sarmentosum Bunge improve the immunologicalfunctions [4-6].

6 Estrogenic effects: Sedum sarmentosum Bunge canincrease the estrogenic effect [7].

[Clinical trial]

1. Pressure sore: Fresh herbs were mash up with 75% alcohol and apply on the sore. 36 cases of elderly patients were treated and the overall cure rate was100% [2].

2. Chronic hepatitis B: 36 cases of patients were treated with Chuipencao granule for triple each day, and the overall cure rate was 89%.

3. Boils and Carbuncles: The fresh herbs were mash up and apply on the affected area with dressing change once each day, and patients were took by orally. 50 cases of patients were treated, 47 cases had effect as the course of treatment were one to five days[3].

4. ASO: The formula of Maijian Prescription is helpful for the treatment of ASO with twice a day, one package for each time. Maijian Prescription can improve the syndromes of ischemia, disorder of lipid metabolism, reduce Platelet aggregation rate and enhance the activity of SOD in plasma[4].

5. ICP prophylaxis: patients were treating with Chuipencao granule triple a day, 10g for each time, 10 days as one course of treatment. The overall cure rate was 81.25%[5].

6. Keratohelcosis: 92 cases of patients were treated with Chuipencao injection, 45 cases were cure, 39 cases’ condition were improved and eight cases were invalid[6].
