[Pharmacological activities]

1 Antibiotic: Spicatusj Diuresisalso had marked diuretic effect in orcinary rats [1-3].

2 Anti-inflammatory:Spicatusj Diuresishad significant inhibitory effect on crofon oil-caused mice ear swell [2].

3 Antibiotic:It exhibited certain inhibition of staphycoloccus aureus, eschrichia coli and pseudomonasaeruginosa in vitro [3].

4 Diuresis andexpel stones: CS has not toxic effects onanimal in acute toxicity tests The rabbit ureteric action potential in rate andamplitude were increased CS may be a drug of diuresis and expel stones, antibacterial, hemostatic. Orthosiphon extract groups demonstrated obvious decreaseconcentration of oxalic acid and calcium in urine and kidney, and reducecalcium oxalate deposition in kidney. The effect of orthosiphon extract oninhibiting renal calculus in mice [5].

5 Expandcapillary and change the rate of blood: The extract of clerodranthus spicatuscan expand capillary. Between the concentration on 0.5%~3%, diastolic extent ofmicrovessel gradually in- creases with the increasing of concentration, and therate of blood is more and more slowly down. And between the concentratio on 4%~5%,compared with riot dropping extract of clerodranthus spicatus on frog’smesenteric capil- laries, its calibre is still expanding. But the extent of itsexpansion has narrowed down and the rate of blood is gradually speeded [6].

6 The other: C. spicatus in therange of concentration from 50 Lg/ml to 250 Lg/ml inhibitedcell proliferation by LPS or sera. C. spicatus, in t he same r ange of alsoinhibited obviously the protein r elease of IL- 1B induced by LPS. Conclusion: C. spicatus caninhibite the pro liferation of mesangial cells and IL-1 product ion stimulatedby LPS in mesangial cells. Improve the Chronic Renal Failure [4,7-9].

[Clinical trial]

1. Urinary tract infection: ①60150g of Shencha were taken as tea to treat 38 cases of urinary tract infection patients. Herbs were taken seven days continually, the overall effective rate was 90[1]. 56 cases of patients were treated with Qinglin decoction (consist of Shencha, Haijinsha, Lianxiancao, Huzhang, Tufuling, Guanzhong, Hongteng, Maogen, Shenggancao, etc), once a day, taken seven days continually, the overall cure rate and overall effective rate were 83 and 95[2].

2. Lithangiuria: Shencha were extracted with water to treat 66 cases of patients. Results showed that 56 cases were cure, eight cases had significant effect, and two cases’ condition had improved [3]. herbs of Fuling, Guizhi, Chaobaizhu, Shencha, Jinqiancao, Zhexie, Zhuling, Huiniuxi and Gancao were extracted by water to treat the lithangiuria patients, once a day and taken fifteen days continually until the stone were expel[4].

3. Chronic nephritis: Herbs of Huangqi, Dangshen, Baizhu, Danggui, Chenpi, Shengma, Caihu, Zhigancao, Xiaoji and Shencha were used to treat 22 cases of chronic nephritis patients, the overall effective rate was 97[5].

4. nephrotic syndrome: Patients of the clinic experiment were divided into the control group and treatment group, control group were treated with prednisone while the treatment group were treated with Shencha and prednisone, twice a day. The overall effective rate(90.9%) of treatment group had significant effect compared the control group (66.7%). Results showed that Shencha combined with prednisone to treat nephrotic syndrome can enhance the treatment effect, reduce the side effect and recurrence rate[6].
