The rhizome contains, venoterpine, dl-anabasine.

1. The water extract and the anabasine of Alangium chinense could significantly relax the muscle of rabbits, dogs, rats and mice^[1].

2. The anabasine isolated fom Alangium chinense, with rapid intravenous injection, could rapidly increase the blood pressure and cause cardiac arrhythmia of cats^[2].

3. The anabasine could inhibit the brain stem respiratory centre, and a large dose of anabasine would cause respiratory depression or arrest^[3].

Bajiaofeng (Alangiumplatanifolium)

1 Toxic enteroparalysis  Basedon the original disease,either adults or children, take raw dahuang (Rheubarbofficinale) 1g/kg, binglang (areca-nut)0.4g/kg every time, bajiaofeng (Alangiumplatanifolium) 2g/kg. First, decoction the binglang andbajiaofeng 20 min until the medicine juice up to about 100ml(childrendiscretionary reduction), then add the raw dahuang in the boiling juice for 2-3min,rectum perfusion when the medicinejuice’s temperature was 34～37°℃, keep 10-20 min, every 4h one time,2-3times a day. Result: thefastest was 4h after take the medicine, the slowest was 18h after take themedicine. 37 cases   were treated, 1 day for the shortest and the longest for 3 days, 34 casescured, 4 cases improved ^[1]

2 Arthralgia syndrome: bajiaofeng (Alangium platanifolium)15-20g, zijiteng(violet gold cane)30-50,zidansen(violet salvia miltiorrhiza) 30-50g, baihua snake (pit-viper)5-10g, shichangpu(rhizomeacori tatarinowii) 20-30g,( the above all weredried).Soak the bajiaofeng and theabove levigation with 200ml white liquor for 10 days. Mixing the filter residue and filtrating, take the liquid supernatant, oral, 10ml every time, 3-4times a day. Treat 114 cases, 54 cases were migratory arthralgia, 36 cases were arthralgia syndrome, 10 cases were pain arthralgia, 14 cases were heat type arthralgia. Results: 75 cases were cured, the rate was 62.5%, 35 cases were improved, account for 29.2%, 10 cases were invalid, account for 8.3% ^[2]

3 Scapulohumeral periarthritis: Clean and dry the root of bajiaofeng(Alangium platanifolium)(white dragon fibrous ), cut up or levigated.2 times a day (morningand evening), 0.5-1gevery time, infusion with boiling water. Acid and cold is not allowed around1h when take the medicine. Served 6 days and withdrawal 2 days, aged and frail take 0.5g. Pregnant not allow to use. Result: 36 were cured in all the 56cases, accout for 64.29%; 18 improved, account for 32.14%., 2 cases did not cured, account for 3.75%. The total effective rate was 96.43%. 35 cases were follow-up , did not see repeat in half year ^[3]

4. Intractable lung hemoptysis: All the drugs are fresh, bajiaofeng 30g, luying(sambucus chinensis) 20g, hongniuxi(achyranthes bidentata frubra) 10g, baimaogen(cogongrass rhizome) 30g(out of heart), water decocted to around 150-200ml, take it onetime after supper. Treated 20 cases, theblood stopped after 1-15 agents. Results: 18 cases were cured, 2 casesinvalid. All the cured didn’t see repeat when follow-up. ^[4]
