[Ecology]     It grows in wet road sidegrasslandditch side and forest. It Breeds by the hibernating stolons and seeds.The old roots and stolons which overwintering before march,stars to bud, slender stem stolons intertwinedly grow mixed with lawn stolons. Internode length is usually related to with density of the lawn.The lawm is dense and the Internode is long accordingly, each node takes root.seeds are dormancy buried after mature, dormancy differently in length,seeding occurs in the middle and the end of March,peak for germination id between April to May,the second peak is in September.

[Pharmacological activities]

1 Anti-microbial: Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides Lam.has significant inhibitory effect in the growth of Staphylococcus aureus Proteusbacillusvulgaris, Salmonellatyphi and Salmonella paratyphi [1].

2 Antiplague: The Gypsophila had antiplague role, the inhibition rate was 54%; the 100g/kg malaria inhibition rateof 54% [1,2].

3 Hypoglycemic effects: Hydrocotylesibthorpioides Lam. had obviously hypoglycemic effecton the rats [3].

 
[Clinical trial]

1. Herpes: 30g of herbs were boiled with water and taken by herpes patients, triple a day. Combined with the treatment of external use, the herbs were mash up and apply on the affect area of skin. Results showed that 51 cases of patients were cure with no gangrene. The medicine time were 2~7 days[1].

2. Herpes simplex keratitis: The treatment group was treated with Lawn Pennywort Herbs that were mash up and apply on the affect eyes. The control group was treated with 1% acyclovir drop. Results: the overall effective rate of treatment group (92.5 %) had significant effectP<0.05 when compared to the control group(82.5%). The medicine time of treatment group (9.8±4.2d) also had significant effectP<0.05compared to the control group(16.5±5.1d) with [2].

3. Acute epidemic keratoconjunctivitis: Fresh herbs were boiling with water and drop into eyes when the decoction were cool. it had better treatment effect when gauze were macerated into the decoction and apply on the affect eyes. 313 cases of patients were treat, and results showed that all patients were cure during 5~10 days[3].

4. Dry cough: 20g Herbs were cook with rock candy, egg and meat and taken by 11 cases of patients, twice a day. Results showed that all patients were cure, the treat time were 1~5 days, the average treat time were two days[4].

5. Ulcer of lower limb: Fresh herbs were mash up and fried, then one egg white and 1g of oxytetracyine were added into it when herbs become cool and apply on the patients’ affect area, once a day. All 25 cases of patients were cure, the treat time were 3~20 days, the average treat time was 7~8 days [5].
