1. Anti-Cataract: Semen oroxyli(SO) water extract had the effect of prevent and inversion rat cataract induced by galactose[1-4]. 2. Anti-inflammatory and Anti-mutagenesis: SO flavonoids possess anti-inflammatory activity on mice inflammation model induced by dextran[5]. SO extract also show a anti-mutagenesis antivity[6]. 3. Antibiosis: Dichloromethane extract from SO bark and root show antibiosis activity on staphylococcus aureus, bacillus subtilis, escherichia coli, aeruginosus bacillus and candida albicans. Lapachol was the activity compound. β-lapachol and oroxylin A possess anti fungal activity[7]. 4. Anticancer: Baicalein inhibit melanoma cell generation and the half inhibition rate was 25μg/ml[8]. SO extract possess toxic effect to cancer cell. And it can inhibit human breast cancer cell MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 proliferative activity[9,10]. 5. Cough Relieving: SO extract show cough relieving and expectorant activity on mice model induced by ammonia water[11]. |

[Clinical trial] | 1. Duodenal ulcer: Patients were treated with Huangqimuhudie decoction(Huangqi, Guizhi, Shichangpu, Danshen, Muhudie, Gancao,etc), one prescription for each day, five weeks as one course of treatment. Results: 25 cases were cured, five cases' condition had improved; 21 cases were cured when gastroscope test, six cases' condition had improved, three case were invalid. No relapse at follow-up visit of half year[1]. 2. Cough cause by pharynx: patients were treated with Muhudie decoction(Muhudie, Xingren, Baibu, Huangqin, Chantui, Shenggancao, etc), one prescription for each day. Results: 18 cases were cure, 22 cases had effect, two cases were invalid, the overall effective rate was 95.2 %[2]. 3. Acute laryngitis: 98 cases of patients in treatment group were treated Muhudie decoction(Muhudie, Shengdi, Niubangzi, Yinhua, Kezi, Pangdahai, Gancao, etc),one prescription for each day, boil or soak. Another 100 cases in control group were treated with penicilin and hexadecadrol injection. Results: in the treatment group, 90 cases were cured(91.8%), six cases' condition had improved(6.1%), two cases were invalid(2.1%); in the control group, 81 cases were cured(81.0), 14 cases' condition had improved(14.0), five cases were invalid(5.0%). The effects of treatment group were better than the control group(P<0.05)[3]. 4. Chronic pharyngitis: 90 cases of patients in treatment group were treated with Qingyan decoction(consist of Dangshen, Baizhu, Fuling, Jiegeng, Bohe, Xuanshen, Hezi, Jinyinhua, Muhudie, Jiangchan, Gancao, etc). One prescription a day. Another 60 cases in control group were treated with Yinhuang lozenge, five times a day, one tablet for each time, ten day as 1 course of treatment for both group. Results: in the treatment group, 23 cases were cured, 30 cases had significant effects, 31 cases had effects, six cases were invalid, the overall effective rate was 93.33%; in the control group, six cases were cured, 16 cases had significant effects, 25 cases had effects, 13 cases were invalid, the overall effective rate was 78.33%. Effects had significant difference when compare each other(P<0.01)[4]. 5. Tympanic membrane perforation: Muhudie was used as the basic membrane to remedy 40 cases (52 ears) of tympanic membrane perforation patients. Results: 48 ears were cured, four ears were invalid, the cured rate was 92%, the shortest treat time was one week and the longest was half year. The audiometric test showed that 31 cases of patients' hearing had improved[5]. |
