[Pharmacological activities]

1. The ethanol extract Toddalia asiatica has a good antibacterial action on candida albicans, which may be related to inhibiting expression of SNF2 and PDE2[1].

2. Toddalia asiatica polysaccharides has strong antioxidant properties and possessed a clear scavenging effect to ·OH and DPPH·[2].

3. The ethanol extract of Toddalia asiatica could alleviate the auricle swelling of mice induced by dimethylbenzene and decrease the torsion times of mice caused by glacial acetic acid, which show that Toddalia asiatica has certain effects on anti-inflammatory and analgesia [1].

4. The ethnol extracts of Toddalia asiatica has remarkable antibacterial effect on Bacillus subtilis, Shigella dysenteriae and saccharomyces cerevisiae[4].

5. The ethanol extract of Toddalia asiatica shows potent antiviral activities against H1N1 virus[5].

[Clinical trial]

Feilongzhangxue (asiatictiddlaia root)

Chronic waist and leg paintook sanbaibang(toddaliaasiatualam) injection (each 2 mlper ml equivalent to feilongzhangxue(asiatictiddlaia root) 1g ), each time one to two, 1 time a day. Intramuscular or pointinjection. Observation 40 cases, including muscle injection 29 cases, and pointinjection (shenshu(renal hilus), dachangshu(ta chang shu), ciliao(next seam),chengshan) 11 cases, in addition to 1 spinal tuberculosis invalid, the rest of39 cases all had significant analgesic effect. After treatment of six months,17 cases didn’t recurrent pain, although recurrent, 22 cases the degreereduced, and the attacks reduced. Side effect and toxicity reaction didn’t findat the use [1].
