[Pharmacological activities]

1. Reduce Blood Fat and Anti Atherosclerosis: Green gram starch and break green gram starch possess notable reduce blood fat activity on hyperlipidemia rat or rabbit model induced by high fat diet[1-5]. The anti atherosclerosis activity of mung bean may base on its reduce blood fat function. Polysaccharides and globulin were the activiy compound. They can inhibit absorption of cholesterol, promote cholesterol degradation in liver and juice excretion[1-3]. In addition, Polysaccharides show potentiation activity on lipoprotein lipase, then promote triacylglycerol hydrolyses and easy to abolish and used by histiocytes[4].

2.Anticancer: Green gram starch cut down tumorous number and size in liver and lung cancer mice induced by morphine combination of sodium nitrite[6]. Phenylalnine ammonialyase inhibit mice leukemic cell L1210 growth in vitro[7].

3. Other Effect: Mung bean show protect liver and kidney effect on animal model[8,9].

 
[Clinical trial]

1. Organophosphorous poisoning: 22 cases of patients were divided into treatment group and control group at randomly. Patients were given the anti phosphorous poison injection firstly. Then the treatment group were treated with the Mung Bean(500g) and Gancao(150g). These herbs were boiled with water and filtrated, and given to patients to drink or nasal feeding. Patients were tested the blood cholinesterase activities after five hours, both treatment group and control group were back to 14%, but after ten hours, the treatment group back to18%, the control group back to 14.5%. Results showed that the effects of treatment group were better than control group[1].

2. Mycetism: 88 cases of patients were treated with Lüdougancao decoction(100300g Lüdou and 1020g Shenggancao were boiled with water for 30 min, 600ml decoction were extracted), 100ml each time, 1~2 prescription a day. During the  treatment, no other drugs were given. Results showed that 68 cases had significant effects, 18 cases had effects, two cases were invalid, the effective rate was 97.73%[2].

3. Sore boils: a certain amount of mung bean were immersed into cold water till soft, then mash up with cactus and applied on the affected part. Change the bandage daily 1 time. A total of 40 cases of patients were treated with, through 2 ~ 6 days treatment, 35 cases were cured, 5 cases of inflammatory had decreased and swelling pain disappeared[3].

[Medical and other Uses]

Function: clearing away heat and toxic materials, removing summer-heat and inducing urination.

Syndromes to be treated: Headache, red eyes, mouth sores, sore carbuncles, drugs and food poisoning , thirst, scanty dark urine, edema, oliguria.

 
[Dosage]

Oral administration: decoction, 1530g, large dose can be used to 120g, smash into powder, or twist into juice.

Topical application: in right amount, smashed and smear on the skin.

 
[Cautions] Not be peeled. Be carefully to be used into the patients with Spleen and stomach intestinal smooth.
