[Pharmacological activities]

1. Bacteriostasis: Decoction show a significant depressant effect to Golden Staphylococcus\Staphylococcus epidermidis\hemolytic streptococcus\micrococcus catarrhalis, and when it combine with trimethoprim show a strengthen antibacterial action. It’s ethanol extract can kill Leptospira and anti HSV-Ⅰeffect[1,2].

2. Cholaneresis and Hepatoprotection: Dandelion parenteral solution or ethanol extract show a significant increase bile volume in rat model. It can relieve acute liver injury induce by antiendotoxin in rat model[3,4].

3. Anti Gastric Injury: Water extract may through inhibit gastric acid secretion and step-up the PGE2 content in gastric mucosa make Helicobacter pylori darkening and ulcer healing[5,6].

4. Antitumor: It’s triterpenes compounds has different degree to inhibit second stage induce skin cancer in mice model. And it’s polysaccharides show a similarity anticancer mechanism with Lentinan[7].

5. Other Effects: It can increase female steroid hormone level, galactogogue action, Diuresis effect, improvability cholesterolemia, adjust isolated frog heart and ex vivo artery and so on. But the mechanism of action still pending[8].

 
[Clinical trial]

1. Pediatric constipation: 3060g fresh herbs were boiled with water and taken by patients, one prescription a day. The cured rate was 98%, no toxic and side effects, seldom relapse happened. Patients with Qi and blood deficiency were not allow to used[1].

2. Postpartum galactostasis: 83 cases of patients were treated with Pugongying decoction, one prescription a day, three days as one course of treatment. Analgesic-antipyretic drugs were given at the same time if patients' temperature over 38. Results showed that 55 cases were cured, 26 cases' condition had improved, two cases were invalid, the overall effective rate was 97.06%[2].

3. Hordeolum: 30g Pugongying and 15g Jinyinhua were boiled with water, the decoction that boiled fist time was used for oral administration and the second decoction was used for lotion. There 120 cases of patients were treated, 46 cases were cured at the first day, 40 cases were cured at the second day, ten cases at the third day; 20 cases had effects, four cases were invalid, the overall effective rate was 96.7%[3].

4. Viral hepatitis A: 30g fresh Pugongying and Cheqiancao were used to prevent the infection of viral hepatitis A. 126 people were given the drugs within 26 days, only 11 people were infected, the morbidity was 8.7%. significant difference was obtained when compared to the group without using the drugs[4].

Good effects could also obtain when diseasa such as acute mastitis[5], chronic atrophic gastritis[6], wart[7], Gravesp[8], insect and mosquito bites, pyogenic infection in deep hypothenar, urinary tract infection, pediatric skin chapped[9] could treat with Pugongyin.
