[Pharmacological activities] |
1. Antibacterial effect: Dayean dry leaves had strong antibacterial activity, especially inhibited E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus [1]. Dayean essential oils had significant inhibitory activity against E. coli at the concentration of 10% [2]. Dayean branch decoction 1:1 in vitro moderate antibacterial activity was 70 strains and the moderate antibacterial activity on Typhoid bacillus, paratyphoid bacillus, Shigella, Vibrio cholerae was 33 in 40 strains, the inhibition rate was 82%. It had the best effect on Shigella flexneri, Shigella Shigella and Boydii Shigella antimicrobial but the worest effect on Songnei dysentery bacilli [3]. Dayean water decoction had a strong antibacterial ability on Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, eight stacked cocci, Streptococcus, Neisseria, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and it also can inhibit flu virus. Volatile oil in vitro was powerful in killing Trichomonas vaginalis, the decoction also had a good killing effect on Leptospira [4]. Dayean phenol had a good inhibition effect on Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis in plate method, the minimum inhibitory concentration was 63μg/mL [5]. 2. Others: Dayean leaves volatile oil had expectorant effect, can stimulate the respiratory mucosa, and dilute mucus. 20% Dayean volatile oil can reversibly block the toad sciatic nerve impulse conduction, high concentrations of blocked fast and slow recovery, low concentrations of blocked slowly and rapid recovery [4]. Intragastric administration of a phenolic oiliness separated from Dayean leaves 200mg/kg can inhibit rat malaria, the inhibition rate was more than 99% [6]. 12mg/kg Dayean leaves extract enabled the rats' blood pressure to half of the pre-administration and maintained for several hours, antihypertensive effect for the release of histamine [7]. |

[Clinical trial] | 1. Cold: 133 case were treated with swamp mahogany extract tablets, each tablet contains crude drugs 3g, 4 times a day,3~4 tablets each time, 2~3 tablets each time for children. Result: 62 cases cured, 22 patients effected, 31 cases improved and 18 cases invalided, the total effective rate was 86.5%. 2. Subacute and chronic amoebic dysentery: swamp mahogany tender branches and leaves 10 catty, cuted up, added water 40 catty, slow fire and cooked for 2 hours, and concentration to 5000 ml, add sodium bicarbonate 100 g in the solution after cool, make into 2% swamp mahogany mixture (fresh preparation better). 41 cases were treated with 2% swamp mahogany mixture 200 ml byr low pressure retention enema. One time in the morning and afternoon a day, 7 ~ 10 d for one period of treatment. Result: 30 cases with subacute amoebic dysentery, clinical symptoms disappeared; 11 cases with Chronic amoebic dysentery, clinical symptoms of 6 cases disappear, clinical symptoms of 2 cases disappear partly, clinical symptoms of 3 cases did not disappear, dung inspection of 6 cases turned to negative. 3. The acute and chronic pyelonephritis: 61 cases with acute pyelonephritis were treated with 100% swamp mahogany decoction, every time 30~50ml, 3~4 times a day, 15 days for one period of treatment. Result: 33 cases cured, 10 cases improved, 6 cases invalided; 2 cases stoped taking the drugs. 61 cases with chronic pyelonephritis were treated with 100% swamp mahogany decoction, every time 30~50ml, 3~4 times a day, 15 days for one period of treatment. Result:37 cases cured, 6 cases improved, 19 cases invalided, 2 cases stoped taking the drugs. (4) Pyogenic corneal ulcer: Droped 0.5% dicaine solution to eye for anesthesia, and injected 2% procaine hydrochloride subconjunctival 0.3 ml, then injected 20% or 30% swamp mahogany 0.5 ml, once a day. Among 3 cases with Pyogenic serpiginous corneal ulcer, 2 cases were markedly improved (anterior chamber empyemata rapidly disappearing, ulcer surface quickly clean repair), 1 cases effected(anterior chamber empyemata significantly reduce); Among 2 cases with Pyogenic catarrhal corneal ulcer, 1 case improved, 1 case effected. One case with acid corrosion injury corneal ulcer repaired rapidly after 1, 2 times treatment, eyesight was improved from 0.3 to 5. Atrophic rhinitis: 24 cases were treated with “An Fu Ointment”(swamp mahogany powder, lotus leaf respectively powder each 10g, mixed with vaseline 100g), put ointment into inside nasal cavity every nigth before sleeping and before a nap. Or swamp mahogany and lotus leaf respectively each 4 catty, boiled with water for 30min, filtered and concentrated to 500 ml (crude drugs 8g in 1ml), add lanolin 1000 g, Vaseline 500 g, mix well to make 2 x6cm oil gauze. Take gauze into inside nasal cavity for 1~2 h, 1~2 times a day.Result: 21 cases cured. |
