1. The Acetoxychavicol Acetate, galanal A and B isolated from Alpinia galangal present the cytotoxic and antifungal activities[1,2].

2. The powdered rhizome and its methanol and aqueous extracts of Alpinia galangal significantly lowered the blood glucose of diabetic rats induced by alloxan[3].

3. The methanol extract of Alpinia galangal could inhibits the proliferation of ascites type sarcoma cells S180[4].

4. The 1'-acetoxychavicol acetate (1) and 1'-acetoxyeugenol acetate (2) isolated from seeds of Alpinia galanga WILD exhibit potent anti-ulcer principles[5].

 
[Clinical trial]

Peptic ulcer: 22 cases patients were treated with a prescription (Bainiudan (Inula cappa) 40g, rudijinniu (zanthoxylum nitidum DC) 18g, hongdoukou (Galanga Galangal Seed) 10g, wuziegu (Cuttlebone) 10g, baiji (common bletilla pseudobulb) 10g, Yang Meigen (bayberry root) 6g, gancao (radix glycyrrhizae) 5g) 1 month as one course of treatment.Results showed that among the 22 cases, 20 cases pain improved significantly in 15 days, judged as effective; 2 cases recovered to normal in 4 cases hyperacidity; 2 cases of positive FOBT all turned negative; the healing rate of gastric ulcer was 93%, the recovery rate of duodenal ulcer was 52.7% [1]
