Immunoenhancement: Reed rhizome polysaccharides has immunoenhancement effect in mice spleen cell plaque formation and Lymphocyte Transformation[1].

 
[Clinical trial]

1. Cold and pharyngalgia: Fresh herbs of Bohe(10g) and Lugen(50g) were cut into piece and soaked with hot water, and then 58 patients were treated with these drugs for 3~5 days continually. Results showed that 53 cases were cured(91%), four cases' condition had improved(7%), one case was invalid, the overall effective rate was 98%[1].

2. Acute tonsilitis: 58 cases of patients were treated with Dahuang(10g) and Lugen(15g). Herbs were boiled with water, Dahuang were added into the water after Lugen were boiling and last no more than five minutes. Then these herbs were boiled twice at three hours interval. Results showed that all patients were cured[2].

3. Chronic hepatitis: patients were treated with fresh Lugen (60~150g) and boiled with water, one prescription a day. Acute hepatitis patients treated with only Lugen individual; patients of chronic hepatitis, persistent hepatitis and hepatitis B, herbs of Huangqi was needed used together; if patients accompany with heavy fever, herbs of heat clearing were added. Totally 108 cases of patient were treated and satisfying effects were obtain[3].

Taste: sweet; property: cold; belong to lung, stomach and bladder channels.

Function: clearing away heat and increasing the body fluid, relieving restlessness and arresting vomiting, inducing diuresis

Syndromes to be treated: fever, polydipsia, vomiting, stomach heat, lung hot cough, lung abscess spit pus, heat gonorrhea.

Oral administration: decoction, dry herb 1530g. fresh herb 60120g.

 
[Cautions]

Be carefully to be used in the patients with deficiency-cold of the spleen and stomach .
